Off-Track Repair
What’s included, how fast we respond and what it costs — before we ever pick up a wrench.
Rollers worked back into the track, tracks set plumb and spaced correctly, and bracket bolts tightened so the door runs without binding.
When a snapped or slipped cable tipped the door out of the track, both cables are replaced and the door levelled before realignment.
Seized steel rollers skid and climb out of the track. A 10-pack of nylon rollers rolls freely and runs far quieter.
Lightly kinked track is straightened; creased track is replaced so the rollers cannot pop out again at the same spot.
On detached garages with aging framing, loose track brackets are re-fastened into solid wood so the track stops leaning away from the door.
Why TrueFix
We find what knocked the door out, whether a cable, roller, hinge, bracket or bumper, so it does not happen again next month.
The door is clamped and the opener disconnected first, because an off-track door can twist and fall.
Rollers, hinges and cables are carried with us, so most off-track doors are back in service on the same visit.
Track realignment is $180 with no call-out fee, and every repair is covered by our written warranty.

How it works
Diagnosis
We reset the rollers, straighten or replace the bent track, and check the bottom section, hinges and bracket for damage.
We replace both cables, level the door and put it back in the track, then check the springs that may have started it.
Lag bolts have loosened in the framing. We re-anchor the brackets into solid wood and re-plumb the track.
Seized steel rollers are skidding instead of rolling. We replace them with quiet nylon rollers.
We clear the track, realign it, and check that the frozen side did not pull a cable off its drum.
We straighten or replace the bent section and suggest how to keep the track clear.
Buyer’s guide
When one or more rollers leave the track, the door is no longer guided. It is held up only by the cables and whatever rollers are still in place. If you press the remote, the opener will try to drag the door along, and one of three things happens: the panels buckle, the door twists further out of the track and falls, or the opener strips its gear. Any one of those turns a simple realignment into a much bigger bill.
So the first steps are always the same:
A door rarely jumps the track for no reason. Fixing the track without fixing the cause just means another call next month. These are the causes we see most in Calgary:
Backing out before the door is fully open, or pulling in a little too far, is the classic one. Even a light bump can bend the bottom section and push the lower rollers out of the vertical track.
When a lift cable snaps or slips off its drum, one side of the door drops while the other is still held up. The door tilts, and the rollers on the low side are levered out of the track.
Tracks are bolted to the jamb and hung from the ceiling with brackets. Loose lag bolts, a bracket hit by a ladder or storage bins, or frost heave shifting the floor can all open a gap between track and roller.
Old steel rollers with seized bearings do not roll; they skid and climb. Cracked hinges let a section flex outward. Both are common on doors with 15 years or more of Calgary winters.
Ice built up at the bottom of the track or a bottom seal frozen to the slab can stop one side while the opener keeps pulling.
Off-track repair has to be done in the right order, because the door is still connected to springs under tension. We clamp the door so it cannot move, release spring tension if a cable is involved, then work the rollers back into the track one section at a time. Bent track sections are straightened if they are only lightly kinked, or replaced if the steel is creased. Then the tracks are plumbed and set at the correct distance from the door so the rollers run freely without binding or popping out.
Once the door is back in, we rebalance it, replace any rollers or hinges that are cracked or seized, and test the opener’s force and reverse settings. Track realignment is $180; if the door also needs cables, rollers or a track section, those are quoted before we do them. A 10-pack of quiet nylon rollers is from $140 on our price list, and on an older door it is often worth doing while everything is apart.
If a car has hit the door hard, the bottom section may be bent beyond straightening. We can usually get the door closed and secure on the first visit, then replace the damaged section; see garage door panel repair. If a broken spring started the whole chain of events, we replace the spring in the same visit so the door is balanced again.
On older doors with several cracked sections, rusted tracks and worn rollers, we will be honest if putting money into a realignment does not make sense compared with a new garage door. Most of the time, though, an off-track door is a straightforward same-day fix.
Where you live in Calgary changes what we usually find. In older inner-city neighbourhoods, detached garages often have track brackets fastened into aging wood framing, sometimes on walls that have shifted over decades. The lag bolts loosen, the vertical track leans away from the door, and the gap grows until a roller slips out. Many of these doors also have extension springs, where a broken spring or pulley can leave one side of the door suddenly unsupported. Here, the fix often includes re-anchoring the track into solid framing.
In newer communities, the doors are heavier insulated 16x7 or 16x8 steel doors on torsion springs. Off-track calls there usually start with a bumper, a cable that slipped off its drum, or a low-headroom track that was set up too tight from day one. The heavier door also means more force is involved when it comes out of the track, so getting it secured quickly matters even more.
Either way, the realignment price is the same, and we explain the cause before we start.
A few habits go a long way. Wait until the door is fully open before backing out. Keep bins, bikes and storage away from the tracks. Chip ice away from the bottom of the tracks in winter. Listen for clicking or scraping rollers, which usually means a roller is wearing out; see why rollers start clicking. And book a yearly tune-up, which checks track alignment, bracket bolts, rollers and cables before they become a problem. We fix off-track doors all over the city, from the NE to the SW, and every repair carries our written warranty.

FAQ
Track realignment is $180 with no call-out fee. If the door also needs new cables ($240), rollers (10-pack from $140) or a replacement track section, we quote those before doing them. See the full price list.
We do not recommend it. The door is heavy, partly unsupported and connected to springs under tension. If a cable is involved, the springs must be unwound to fix it safely. Unplug the opener, keep clear and call a technician.
No. Running the opener on an off-track door can bend panels, twist the door further out and cause it to fall. Leave it closed or where it is, unplug the opener and call us.
The most common causes are a vehicle hitting the door, a broken or slipped cable, bent or loose tracks, worn rollers or cracked hinges, and ice or obstructions at the bottom of the track. We fix the cause so it does not happen again.
A straightforward realignment usually takes an hour or so. If cables, rollers or a track section also need replacing, allow a bit longer. We carry most of those parts on the truck.
Not always. Many off-track doors go back in without panel damage. If the bottom section was bent by a vehicle, it may need straightening or replacement, which we quote separately.
